The founder of Giacomo, Amit Ranka, came
from the fashion scene in Milan to Berlin.
As a vegetarian he was disappointed with
what was on offer in Germany.
A lot of vegetarian products had meat based ingredients.
He decided to develop food to support
vegetarian and healthy nutrition without sacrificing
the joy of taste.
Milk products and cheese form an important
part of the vegetarian diet.
It is no surprise that Giacomo began
by developing and producing different kinds of cheese.
Giacomo launched an own cream-cheese line
in 1999.
The production of Giacomo grilled cheese began in 2002.
The Indian background of the company’s
founder influenced a new product developed in 2003.
In summer, 2003, the Giacomo premium product
“Giacomo Bombay Lassi” was launched in Germany.
The Indian yogurt drink to-go has been
very much in demand since then.
The positive reaction to the product encouraged
the management to concentrate on yogurt drinks for the
time being.
