Strength with
the help of Ayurveda
Ayurveda is a combination of empirical
naturopathy and philosophy, which concentrates on the
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of
the human body that relate to illness and health.
The ayurvedic view considers the human being as a whole.
In the typology you can distinguish between the following
temperaments or life energies, the so called Doshas:
- Vata (wind,
air, pneuma)
- Pitta (fire
and water, chole)
- Kapha (earth
and water, phlegm)
These can be found in every living organism.
One or two of the Doshas usually dominate in one person,
rarely all three.
In a healthy organism these energies or temperaments
should be in a harmonious balance.
The ayurvedic science includes its own diet recommendations
– within which the Doshas play an important role.
Ayurveda recommends
certain foods to each energy type.
General recommendations are as follows:
-eat only if you are hungry
-do not eat between meals
-have the main meal at noon
-never eat with a restless mind
-leave at least three hours between meals
-do not eat till you are completely full
-eat fresh food
-drink water (also warmed up) and herbal teas
-every meal should contain all six different flavours
A well-balanced nutrition in the Ayurvedic
sense is called Sattvic. Generally recommended are boiled
milk, rice, ghee, sesame, fruit and sweets. Meat, fish,
eggs, cheese, preserved food, frozen foods and fatty
food should be avoided. The ayurvedic diet is mainly
vegetarian.
Alcohol, coffee, drinks with carbonic acid and cocoa
are to be avoided.
Moreover there are special suggestions
for every Dosha-type:
It is said People dominated by Vata
have to deal more often with digestive trouble and therefore
should eat cooked and easy to digest food.
The meals should be warm and have a little bit of fat.
The recommended flavours are salty, sour and sweet.
People dominated by Pita
have a strong “digestive fire”.
They can eat cold and warm food with a medium–heavy
consistency.
Their flavours are bitter, sweet and sour.
People dominated by Kapha
should only eat medium cooked warm meals,
a lot of fruits and vegetables.
The recommended flavours are hot, bitter and sour.
Children should follow the eating
rules for Kapha.
